2019 was a very good year on All Day I Dream About Food, with some of my most popular keto recipes yet! Read on for the best keto recipes of the last 12 months.
Whoa! It’s not just the end of another year. It’s the end of a DECADE! We are about to enter the 2020s, and my mind is reeling a bit with the momentousness of that. Did you know that ADIDAF has been around for almost 10 years? March 3rd, 2020 will mark this blog’s 10 year anniversary.
One of the things I’ve learned in my almost 10 years as a food blogger is that not every recipe is an instant hit. Some go totally viral from the beginning and some are the slow burn variety, starting off quietly but finding more and more fans as time passes. And some recipes just don’t seem to go anywhere at all, and just sort of fizzle with gaining any traction.
Excellent question, my friends. If I knew that, then every single recipe I created would go totally viral and I’d be making millions of dollars. Alas, I don’t always know what will do well and what won’t, and so I focus mostly on the recipes I want to make.
Turns out that this is a good approach, and that a lot of what appeals to me happens to appeal to you too. I guess we often crave the same things!
I do get a kick out of looking back and seeing which were the most popular keto recipes of the year. It’s always a surprise to me to see which recipes took off and which didn’t.
Some of my favourites make the list and some of my favourites get completely overlooked. I’ve come to realize that it’s entirely beyond my control and I should just enjoy the process.
Top 10 Keto Recipes of 2019
Enough blathering on! Without further ado, here are the best keto recipes of the year!

I created this easy pancake recipe for my cookbook Easy Keto Breakfasts, and I knew I was on to something. Super light and fluffy, and they turn out well every time. They have been a HUGE hit and have become one of the most popular keto pancake recipes on the internet. They make fabulous waffles too!

Cutting your carb intake is the best way to get into ketosis. Other actions, such as consuming MCT oil and exercising in a fasted state, may also help. Quick and easy methods, such as using special urine strips, can let you know whether you're maintaining ketosis or you need to make some adjustments to your diet.
Proponents say that the best types of cottage cheese for keto are those that are plain and 4% full-fat. This variety is generally the highest in fat and lowest in carbs, fitting perfectly into the rules of the ketogenic diet regime.
Can you eat tomatoes on the keto diet? "Tomatoes are keto," says Abby Langer, R.D., author of Good Food, Bad Diet. "They're low in carbs, so they fit perfectly into keto." One whole medium tomato contains roughly 5 grams of carbohydrates, of which 1.5 grams are fiber and 3 grams are sugar.
If you do try a keto diet to jump-start weight reduction, choose healthier sources of fat and protein, such as olive oil, avocados, and nuts (almonds, walnuts). But after a few weeks, switch to a reduced-calorie Mediterranean-style diet and increase your physical activity.
Peanut butter can definitely be part of a keto diet, but it's best to stick to plain options that are free of extra flavors and sweeteners. Almond butter is a good choice, too, and it's slightly lower in carbs. Additionally, you should be mindful of your portion size if you're trying to lose weight.
The best keto cheeses include cheddar, Gouda, goat cheese, and blue cheese, while the worst are cottage cheese and low fat and processed varieties. If you're following the keto diet or know someone who is, be sure to keep these cheeses in mind to promote ketosis and meet dietary goals.
Got cheese has the lowest carb content out of all varieties. It contains zero carbs while supplying you with 8 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein per 1-ounce serving.
Cucumbers are made of 90% water and are almost calorie-free. One cup of cucumbers contains only 16 calories and 3 grams of net carbs, making it a sure fit for a keto plan.
Yes, as we talked about above salsa is definitely keto friendly! Salsa usually only has a few grams of carbs per serving and is loaded with nutritious ingredients, so you can add a burst of flavor to your meals without any guilt. Just be sure to choose a salsa without any added sugar.
- Starchy Vegetables: Potatoes, peas, sweet potatoes, yams, corn, cassava, artichoke, etc. - Refined Carbs: Bread, pasta, pastries, tortilla, sandwich, etc. Due to the high-carb content of these food items, they are not keto-friendly.
Cabbage is delicious when stuffed into keto fajitas, used in soups, or made into coleslaw with a rich, creamy high-fat dressing that's keto-friendly. It has 2 grams of net carbs per cup shredded, so you can eat a lot in one sitting without falling out of ketosis, says Dixon.
Mushrooms, like oyster, shiitake, white button, and portobello, are naturally low in carbohydrates, making them a keto-friendly food. Enjoy them raw or cooked, in dishes like stir-fry, casseroles, scrambles, soups, or stuffed with low carb ingredients like cream cheese and bacon.
Green beans and black soybeans are keto-friendly bean options, each containing only 2 grams of net carbs per 1/2-cup (60–90-gram) serving. Some promising keto substitutes for beans include mushrooms, eggplant, avocado, ground meat, and boiled peanuts.
For healthy people who don't have diabetes and aren't pregnant, ketosis usually kicks in after 3 or 4 days of eating fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day. That's about three slices of bread, a cup of low-fat fruit yogurt, or two small bananas. You can start ketosis by fasting, too.
Gulotta recommends staying on keto for six months max before reintroducing more carbs to your diet. And Scott Keatley, RDN, of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy in New York City, agrees: “The science hasn't gotten to the point where I would be comfortable recommending it as a forever diet,” he says.
