The San Jose State Spartans (3-4, 1-2 Mountain West) hosted the no. 24 San Diego State Aztecs (6-0, 2-0 MW) for homecoming and the Mountain West Conference home opener, losing 19-13 in overtime.

Second overtime

(San Diego State) Lucas Johnson ended the game with a 24-yard third down touchdown pass to Jesse Matthews.

(San Jose State)On third-and-7 from the SDSU 22, Nash throws his first interception of the night as Trenton Thompson intercepts a pass in the end zone intended for Derrick Deese Jr.

First overtime

(San Jose State) After an illegal substitution penalty pushed San Jose State back five yards, Nash came through with a 25-yard completion to Derrick Deese Jr. Reminiscent of a play from the 2019 game at UNLV, Nash laterals a pass to Jack Snyder for one yard on first-and-goal and then completes to Jermaine Braddock to the one-yard line, leading to third-and-goal. A handoff to Tyler Nevens becomes the first touchdown of the night. Matt Mercurio makes the extra point to tie the game heading into second overtime.

(San Diego State) This will be the first overtime game of the year for San Jose State and second for San Diego State. On September 18, San Diego State defeated Utah 33-31 in triple overtime. San Diego State wins the toss and gets the first possession.

The first touchdown of the game was a 13-yard pass from Lucas Johnson to Jesse Matthews, upheld by video review. The extra point is good. San Diego State takes a 13-6 lead.

Fourth quarter

(0:15) San Diego State kneels out the clock, forcing overtime.

(0:20) On third-and-5, Nick Nash spiked the ball to force fourth down and a 52-yard Matt Mercurio field goal attempt. San Diego State calls their second timeout of the half. The teams line up again, but San Diego State calls their third and final timeout. The field goal is short.

(1:05) Nevens gains one yard. San Jose State calls their final timeout. It will be second-and-9 from the SDSU 38.

(1:10) On third-and-10 from the SJSU 42, Nash completes a 19-yard pass to Derrick Deese Jr. San Jose State calls the second timeout of the half.It will be first-and-10 from the SDSU 39.

(1:27) Nick Nash does not complete a deep pass to Isaiah Hamilton, but a pass interference on San Diego State gifts San Jose State 15 free yards and the spot on the SJSU 42.
