About Pink Wax Flower
With over 500 species and even more cultivars, there's a Hoya out there for everyone! They're native to Southeast Asia and their common name, waxplant, refers to their thick, waxy leaves which help them retain water in the heat. They're excellent climbers and will take off if you give them a trellis to grow on. Their other-worldly, star-shaped flowers are often fragrant and come in brilliant shades of red, pink, yellow, and more!

How to fertilize Pink Wax Flower
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Pink Wax Flower after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Just had to share my client’s beautiful #HoyaObovata. She was kind enough to let me take a couple clippings of it last year, and it has been so exciting to watch it grow (isn’t it always?!). #HappyPlants #Hoya #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HangingPlants #HoyaHeads #HoyaHangout

Help this poor thing, I'm a bad plant mum So, I've had this plant since 2018, got it at a Tesco, didn't have a clue what kind of plant it was, but it had a metal climbing trellis and I just assumed it would be a climbing plant. I don't know how this thing is still alive as I often forget to water it, but it's going strong. I'm just wondering if there is a better way for it to be potted? It has so many segments and they all just end up falling down. Starting to think it's more of a hanging plant then a climbing one. I've also only just found out what kind of plant it is and that it's supposed to flower?! Never seen it do that 😨 #Hoya #Samoanwaxplant #HoyaAustralis #badplantmum

When to repot? I purchased this Australis online in January. I did read they are a faster growing Hoya. I repotted it into a nursery pot that fit this cover pot there’s about 2” below the nursery pot so if any excess water drips, it’s caught. But rarely is there standing water. When I planted it, it’s in a suuuper chunky soil mix (orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and a touch of succulent soil) and the roots were maybe halfway the depth of the nursery pot. I water it maybe every 12-14 days? When I water, I flush it. I let the water run through the mix and it immediately drains the bottom. So last time I watered, there were no roots coming out. Yesterday, I saw this. But I don’t feel like the pot is crowded either? I’m still getting the hang of the Hoya and its needs. If it grew this much in 2 weeks, I’m nervous for another 2 weeks if I don’t take action. Any help is much appreciated! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #Hoya #HoyaHangout

Pink Wax Flower Humidity Needs →
Pink Wax Flower does best in well-draining soil. A good soil will contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir as well as perlite or vermiculite to help with drainage. Adding a handful of perlite to regular store-bought potting soil should do the trick!

When and How to Successfully Repot Pink Wax Flower →
Pink Wax Flower should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!
Pink Wax Flower does not have a typical pattern of dormancy. If you notice their growth slowing down substantially, double check that they are getting enough sunlight and water to thrive!
Pink Wax Flower is native to Southeast Asia and Australia.
Pink Wax Flower can be propagated by the stem method. To propagate:
- Make a cut just above the node. The node is the break in the stem where the leaf emerges.
- To get the cutting to root, you can either:
- Place the cutting in water until roots emerge and are ~2” long and then transplant into well-draining soil, or
- Place the cutting directly into well-draining soil and water when dry.
When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.
Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.
Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.
Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.

These are lovely little vines and can produce beautiful smelling flowers with some patience. Make sure your sail drains well and water it sparingly.
